With a purpose-built frame around the electric motor, Windrose and Tesla are the only ones that were available at IAA 2024.
The Windrose semi has some iterations, one of them is the European spec, with a single back axle, a sleeper cab (one of the requirements for a long-distance Hall in Europe), a mirror cam system, just like the Mercedes-Benz Actros (MirrorCam system), the new standard in Europe for longer range trucks.
The USA and Canada are the only states that do not allow camera systems instead of mirrors. In the European market, they will probably be used in dual-system cameras and mirrors, just like the truckers are using now, the Mercedes-Benz Actros.
The Windrose comes with a 670km (420 miles)loaded range, a 729 kWh battery, 1,040kW peak output, 800V high-voltage, and a range of up to 1000 km unloaded, a single front seat for the driver, 2 big screens for the driver information system, a digital dashboard behind the steering wheel, the optional HUD to display range and speed, and two additional screens for the mirror/camera system.
There are automatic doors, that open just like the back door of a VAN, at a push of a button, in standard configuration we have just one door on the side, but it can be built in the 2 door configuration.
The battery are LFP – Lithium Iron Phosphate and also it can be NMC – Nickel Manganese Cobalt. The LFP has a longer life cycle, but they weigh a little more.
Being a global company, the truck has a charging port on each side, and they are adapting to many different charging standards:
- CCS (the standard used and common right now),
- MCS – Megawatt Charging System
- CHAdeMO – Asian Spec
One of the advantages of having a charging port on each side is the possibility to put a CCS on one side and the MCS on the other side, right now there is a transition from CCS to MCS, just like the transition from USB A to USB C in IT, or just double up the charging and charge both chargers both of them CCS, both sides.
We also have the option of two back axels, double axle setup, the more traditional way, with 2 driven axles, they redesigned the chassis in order to have more batteries fit into it.
Pricing is not available yet, they try to make the price south of 300k euro range.
In January of 2025, they will start pilot projects in the USA.
In the China area, Kerry Logistics, a top 10 logistic global company will use 34 Windroise semi, for 1000km+ highway routes between Shanghai and Beijing, and other similar routes in China.
